The public transportation methods dedicated to transporting Expo visitors in Dubai vary, including metro, buses, taxis, and others, extending to the rest of the emirates of the country, which also organize daily trips transporting Expo visitors to and from the exhibition. Follow along with us to learn how the Roads and Transport Authority, within the framework of its comprehensive operational plan for Expo 2020 visitor transportation, sought to provide a large fleet of public transportation buses, distinguished by their compliance with European specifications for low carbon emissions, the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa region, reflecting its commitment to preserving the environment and conserving energy, contributing to reducing the carbon footprint of the bus.
How to get to Expo 2020?
Dubai
There are multiple public transportation options that visitors can use to reach Expo 2020 Dubai, as follows:
Dubai Metro
It is the fastest and most sustainable way to reach, as the Red Line of the Dubai Metro transports visitors from Dubai directly to the entrance of Expo 2020.
- Dubai Metro operating hours at Expo 2020:
- Saturday - Thursday: The first arrival to Expo 2020 station is at 6:15 AM and the last departure is at midnight.
- Friday: The first arrival is at 9:15 AM and the last departure is at 1:00 AM.
Expo 2020 Dubai Buses
The Roads and Transport Authority provides 580 buses from Expo buses for free to exhibition visitors. These buses will be free for event visitors and can be boarded from various locations in Dubai and other emirates, and all the visitor has to do is remember the gate they got off at, as the return trip will depart from the same gate.
Taxis
Taxis in Dubai stand out with their yellow color and different roof colors indicating the company they work for. Taxis can be booked by phone, or through Careem and Uber.
There are special numbers for each type of taxi that can be contacted with the company and book a taxi by phone:
- Dubai Taxi (taxis dedicated to people with disabilities upon request) with a red roof: 808 2080 04
- Arabian Taxi with a green roof: 808 2080 04
- Cars Taxi with a blue roof: 789 227 800
- Metro Taxi with an orange roof: 56000 600
- National Taxi with a yellow roof: 543322 600
Private Cars
As for people who wish to use their own cars to reach Expo 2020, more than 30,000 private parking spaces have been allocated for exhibition visitors, operating from 8:30 AM to 1:30 AM from Saturday to Wednesday, and until 2:30 AM on Thursday, Friday, and official occasions, in addition to three areas equipped with parking spaces for people with disabilities at Expo 2020, which are:
- 110 spaces in Opportunities Parking (from E77 Expo Street)
- 250 spaces in Sustainability Parking (from D54 Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street)
- 96 spaces in Mobility Parking (from E311 Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Street)
Also available is a car valet service for 95 UAE Dirhams, and if the visitor's ticket is provided with parking service vouchers, they can be used instead of paying the fees.
Access to Expo 2020 from the rest of the Emirates
The Roads and Transport Authority announced its plan to transport visitors to Expo 2020 from various Emirates of the country. Accordingly, nine locations have been designated in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Fujairah, Ajman, and Ras Al Khaimah, with 70 buses allocated. These buses will operate 193 trips daily on weekdays, and up to 213 trips daily on Thursdays and Fridays.
Abu Dhabi and Al Ain
Four locations have been allocated in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
- The first is Abu Dhabi International Airport station: with 10 buses, operating 31 round trips from Saturday to Wednesday, and 33 round trips on Thursdays and Fridays.
- The second location is the main bus station in Abu Dhabi: with 10 buses, operating 26 round trips from Saturday to Wednesday, and 29 round trips on Thursdays and Fridays.
- The third location is Marina Mall station: with 10 buses, operating 27 round trips from Saturday to Wednesday, and 28 round trips on Thursdays and Fridays.
- The fourth station is Al Ain bus station: with 9 buses, operating 22 round trips from Saturday to Wednesday, and 25 round trips on Thursdays and Fridays. The bus departure intervals at all four locations range from 20 minutes.
Sharjah
Transitioning to access routes to Expo 2020 Dubai, we move to the Emirate of Sharjah, where the authority has designated two locations to transport visitors from the cultural capital:
- The first is Jubail bus station: with 10 buses, operating 29 round trips from Saturday to Wednesday, and 33 round trips on Thursdays and Fridays, with a departure interval of 20 minutes.
- The second location is Muweilah station: with 10 buses, operating 32 round trips from Saturday to Wednesday, and 37 round trips on Thursdays and Fridays, with a departure interval of 15 minutes.
Ras Al Khaimah and Ajman
Following in the access mechanism to Expo 2020 to the Emirates of Ras Al Khaimah and Ajman. The authority has designated one location in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah as Ras Al Khaimah Bus Station, and another in the emirate of Ajman as Ajman Bus Station, with seven buses allocated to the two locations departing from Ras Al Khaimah passing through the emirate of Ajman. There will be 17 round trips from Saturday to Wednesday, and 18 round trips on Thursday and Friday, with a frequency of 60 minutes.
Fujairah
We conclude the article on accessing Expo 2020 Dubai with the emirate of Fujairah, where the authority has allocated four buses to transport visitors from there, specifically from the bus stop near City Center Fujairah, with nine round trips daily in both directions from Saturday to Wednesday, and 10 round trips daily in both directions on Thursdays and Fridays, with a frequency of two hours.
Getting Around Expo 2020 Dubai Site
There are various options for getting around the Expo site for visitors, such as walking on foot using paths equipped with the latest comforts and entertainment, or using internal buses to move between the main locations at the event site, which are plentiful and suitable for families with children and people with disabilities, or golf carts capable of transporting an entire family, noting that some are suitable for people with disabilities, all the way to the Expo 2020 train that offers a unique tour around the exhibition grounds.
