About
Mina Zayed, also known as Zayed Port or Port Zayed, is a commercial deep-water port that serves Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. It was established in 1968 and officially inaugurated in 1972, and is named after Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the former President of the UAE1. Mina Zayed comprises 21 berths with depths ranging from 6 to 15 metres and a total berth length of 4,375 metres. It handles about 900,000 tons of cargo annually, and is also a gateway for general cargo vessels, RORO (roll-on/roll-off) ships, and luxury cruise tourism13. Mina Zayed is located near the city’s main port area, where you can also find the Fish Souk, the Fruit and Vegetable Souk, and the Carpet Souk, which offer a variety of fresh produce, traditional goods, and bargains. Mina Zayed is a vital part of Abu Dhabi’s economy and culture, and reflects its historic connection with the sea.
